Who’s your ideal customer? Who would you call my perfect customer?
I won’t accept answers such as:
“Everyone”
“Anyone who’s willing to pay”
“Anyone with a pulse to buy”.
There are two major problems with that:
It’s wider than the view out of Burj Khalifa’s highest story.
It only works if you have the world gold reserve as your marketing budget.
If we’re aiming to target everyone that fits this description, then we easily need a few million dollars to start with this marketing campaign.
But what if we are working with a marketing budget less than the average yearly salary in an African country.
Luckily you’ve stumbled upon this article!
Carpet Bombing Marketing Doesn’t Work
Mass marketing has been a part of our life since the beginning. Coca Cola, Apple, MacDonalds. We woke up to the fact that these companies exists, there are part of our life.
Then it came to us starting our company, but you know what?
We don’t have marketing means like MacDonalds. We simply don’t have the marketing budget to saturate the market with our message.
Carpet Bombing your logo or slogan is not the way, and will never be.
It’s also not the way that any of these big brands started out.
I’d bet good money that every big brand you know started out with the same mechanism.
Rock Solid Offer
This is what we refer to as an RSO.
An offer that directly spoke to their ideal clients. The people they identified as perfect customers for their product or service
As simple as it seems, as good and as efficient results it can get.
Effective marketing hinges on that concept and that concept alone. This won’t work alone, are you able to get in front of the right people?
Blast Fishing
I’ve recently read an article about ‘blast’ ‘dynamite’ fishing, I believe this was in a third world country.
Apparently smart fisherman figured out that it would be a lot easier if they just chuck a stick of dynamite in the water.
Dynamite goes off, fish get killed or dazed by the blast, you just scoop them up. No need for fishing lines or bait or any of that stuff.
That’s exactly what an RSO can do for you in your market. Not only will your ideal clients be magnetically attracted to your message, if your offer is solid you’ll also attract the people that are thinking about it, playing with the idea, considering it. So you’ll scoop up ALL the fish.
So how do you put together an RSO? Let’s talk about that in the next post.
Simply the finest,
Anthony
